Build a Case

When the paper is thin, the case is built from the evidence up: where the work is said to have been, what record each moment should have left, and who holds it.

I
Map the surfacings

Every year and place the work is said to appear, written down as a claim.

II
Test each one

Each claim set against the registry; matches labelled by evidence, not hope.

III
Find the gaps

The records that should exist: stock books, labels, catalogues, customs stamps.

IV
Write the case

Archive requests drafted, science scoped, open questions kept as leads.

Existing case files are kept in The Vault (members only).

Where the work has surfaced

One per line: year | place | what the documents or the family say. Each line is cross-referenced against the registry; a line with no record becomes a research lead.
